I figured I should give a little background info on myself. My name is Jessica Pryor and I am 21 years old (soon to be 22!). I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when I was 6 years old. I was old enough to know what was going on but too young to really be too upset about it. It just became a part of my life. I was born in Spokane, Washington and then moved to Denver, Colorado when I was nine. In Denver, I had the incredible opportunity to go to the Barbara Davis Center for a few years. When I was 13 years old I moved to Atlanta, Georgia and fell in love with the atmosphere of the South (but not the humidity!). I am now studying biology here in Atlanta at Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU). It's my senior year so I am deciding whether I want to go to grad school or if I want to dive into a career. Both have their perks! I am an only child with two wonderful, supportive parents. They should really write a book or something because they are an example of how parents of a diabetic should raise their child. My boyfriend, Davis, and I have been dating for almost a year. He is a full on diabetes expert now and I feel really blessed to have him by my side!
Diabetes is one of those things that can either strengthen or weaken a person. I look at diabetes as an opportunity to show the world that no matter what the circumstances are, there is always something to be thankful for. I am SO excited to start blogging on here about my adventures with type 1 diabetes!!
