In last week's post, entitled "Listening To Your Body", I discussed how important it is to listen to the signals that your body is sending you. Awareness is key, of course, because developing awareness is what helps us to be able to even hear the signals in the first place!
But What About Your Intuition?
Sometimes, if we're not tuned into our body very keenly, we may receive signals from a more subtle place that we may or may not pay heed to, and we might characterize that place as our intuition or feeling sense.
While it's true that some people have a more highly developed intuition than others (just like some people are more in touch with their bodies than others), it's imperative that we learn to listen so that we can avoid choices and actions that may get us into trouble.
That intuition likely speaks to you all the time, but are you really tuning in? And if you are indeed tuning in, are you heeding its voice?
At times, our intuition is like a first warning signal. Say you're walking down the street and decide to take a shortcut down a dark, deserted alley. As you move into the opening of the alley, the hair on the back of your neck stands up and you get a sense that it's not a good idea to move forward, and you turn around into the brightly lit street. That's your intuition at work (and for you comic book fans, you may like to call it your "Spidey Sense").
And concerning your health, it may be as simple as looking at some food in the display case at the delicatessen and intuiting that it looks kind of unhealthy or possibly spoiled, and you choose something that looks better. On a deeper level, it might mean an intuition that something in your body doesn't feel right, and you trust that feeling and go to your doctor to talk about it.
An intuition about your health may lead you to discover something important, but sometimes our fears can be masked as intuition. For instance, if your huge fear of death leads you to feel that you're dying every Friday afternoon, your doctor may say that perhaps your intuition is actually being hijacked by your fear, and maybe you need counseling or therapy to look more deeply at that. In this case, you may not be able to truly access your intuition since it's actually clouded by your fears.
Listen, Listen, Listen
Your intuition is always there. We all have it, but it's more fine-tuned in some of us. If you want to listen to your intuition, there are countless books and courses to help you develop it. You can also simply learn to listen to that "still, small voice" inside, and consider what it's telling you.
Listen to your body, listen to your intuition, and see how the body and the intuition frequently reflect, mirror, and complement one another.
