Keep Positivity on Your Side

Positivity is a human trait that we all generally want more of, and it is also a skill that can be learned, strengthened, and improved throughout your life. Being positive has real impact on your health, both mental and physical, and there are even scientists who devote their lives to the study of positive thought. 

Positive Psychology Is Real

Positive Psychology is a true science that delves into the notion of what positivity can truly do for human beings and their lives.

positive thinkingOn the website of The Positive Psychology Center of The University of Pennsylvania, it states very clearly that, "Positive Psychology is the scientific study of the strengths that enable individuals and communities to thrive. The field is founded on the belief that people want to lead meaningful and fulfilling lives, to cultivate what is best within themselves, and to enhance their experiences of love, work, and play."

This is a very laudable mission for this relatively new science, and their many projects underscore the importance of the study of the effects of positivity. 

Empowerment, Positivity, and Health

In a scientific study published in 1995, researchers concluded that the empowerment of diabetic patients with knowledge and understanding about their disease improved blood glucose control and the management of the psychosocial aspects of living with diabetes. 

Even the world-famous Mayo Clinic states in its publications that a positive attitude can decrease stress and improve health.

Being Authentic

Using positivity to improve and support your health and well-being doesn't mean that you have to be inauthentic. If you're having a bad day, if someone has been cruel to you, or you're grieving the loss of a loved one, there's room in life for all of your feelings. 

Grief, loss, sadness, pain---these are all real feelings, and we don't want to stuff them down or deny them. It's when we get caught in them and we can't get out that we can get pulled into cycles of negative thinking and depression that can harm our health and set us back. 

So, definitely be authentic and don't deny the feelings that you have. It's important to make room for it all. However, if you're stuck in a rut of negative thinking, seek help from a professional who can assist you in pulling yourself out of that place into a space of authentic resilience. 

Positive Vibrations

Your brain and mind can sense what's happening in your body, and vice versa. The mind-body connection is real, and your thinking can absolutely impact your physical health. 

Spend time with positive people, read things that uplift you, use music to raise your mood, and seek help and support from those people who know you and care about you. 

We can't be positive 100% of the time, but we can strive for positivity, and feed our bodies and minds positive thoughts and experiences that empower us to be our best and healthiest. 

Stay positive when you can, and know that when the going gets tough, better times are always ahead.
