Diabetes Blogs

Welcome to Tuesday Inspirations From Nurse Keith!

Hello to everyone in the DiabeticLifestyle.com community! I am so thrilled to have been invited to blog here on DL, and I look forward to sharing a great deal of information--and inspiration--with you over the coming months.

About Me

First, I'll tell you a little about myself. I've been a Registered Nurse since 1996, and for the majority of my career, I've worked in home health, public health, hospice, case management and community health. During those years of case management and home health, I focused especially on the management of chronic diseases, including diabetes, hypertension, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, addiction and mental illness. I currently serve as a staff nurse for two home care agencies here in sunny Santa Fe, New Mexico, where I live with my lovely wife of 24 years.

Additionally, I am a Board Certified Nurse Coach (NC-BC) under the auspices of the American Holistic Nurse Credentialing Corporation, and I coach nurses and other healthcare professionals on self-care, wellness, career management, writing, social media, and entrepreneurship.

Aside from coaching and nursing, I'm also a professional freelance writer, a well-known nurse blogger, and the host of a popular Internet radio station for nurses.

My Plan For This Blog

My plan for "Tuesday Inspirations From Nurse Keith" is for this blog to be a place for inspiration and information, as I said above, and also for the kind of coaching that you can only get from a coach who is also a nurse.

My views on life and health come from a very holistic and open-minded perspective, and while I do indeed still work as a nurse in relatively mainstream medical settings, I also embrace other ways of thinking and seeing the world that are quite different from the norm. In this respect, I can certainly talk about blood sugars, HgBA1c's and disease management, but I also like to examine life from a point of view that embraces metaphor, spirituality, non-Western schools of thought, and the connection of mind, body, spirit and soul.

Coaching, Nursing and Life With Diabetes

As a Registered Nurse who is also a professional coach, I appreciate the stress that can often result from living with a chronic disease like diabetes. In the 21st century, diabetes management has become both an art and a science, and we're seeing how people are increasingly able to live active, healthy and vibrant lives without unexpected complications.

While this blog could focus on the nuts and bolts of diabetes management, I know that there is plenty of information out there from which you can glean just about anything you want to know about the diabetes. Instead, I imagine "Tuesday Inspirations From Nurse Keith" being a place where I will share my own brand of uplifting and enlightening blog posts that will inspire you to live a healthier, more balanced and enjoyable life.

Here on this blog, I'll be discussing simple strategies for enhancing and improving your lifestyle, ways to make sure that your workstyle does not conflict with your lifestyle, and various issues related to mental health, spiritual well-being and overall quality of life.

"Tuesday Inspirations From Nurse Keith" will publish every Tuesday, of course, and I look forward to hearing from some of you as thoughts and conversations are sparked by what I share here.
