Dizziness and fatigue hit hard after finishing a race in Phoenix

Four months ago, life took an abrupt turn for championship NASCAR racer Jamie Dick. For weeks, he felt thirstier than usual and then, right after a 28th-place finish in a race in Phoenix, the 26-year-old reported to the on-site medical center feeling dizzy and fatigued. “I felt really bad during the race,” he says. “I wasn’t in focus and felt really weak.” While he thought he was just dehydrated, he was sent to a nearby hospital for testing and that’s where he learned that he had type 1 diabetes.
